This video will show you how to work the German Short Row Heel!
Instructions for this week:
The heel is to be worked back and forth across the 24 (28, 32, 36) stitches just worked. Turn work so WS is facing.
Using stitch markers, mark heel stitches as foll:
8 (9, 11, 12) sts, marker, 8 (10, 10, 12) sts, marker, 8 (9, 11, 12) sts
Part One – Working in Rows Over Heel Stitches
Row 1 (WS): DSP, k23 (27, 31, 35), turn work.
Row 2 (RS): DSK, knit to previous DSP stitch, turn work.
Row 3: DSP, knit to previous DSK stitch, turn work.
Rep rows 2 & 3 another 7 (8, 9, 10) times.
Next Row (RS): DSK, knit to DSP stitches, knit each DSP stitch together into single st. Begin working in the rnd.
Note: All sts on either side of the stitch markers have been worked into DSK & DSP sts. Center 8 (10, 10, 12) sts between the markers remain as single sts.
Part Two – In the Round
Rnd 1: k24 (28, 32, 36), knit each DSK stitch together into single st, knit to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: k24 (28, 32, 36), k8 (9, 11, 12), sm, k8 (10, 10, 12), sm, k1, turn work. Begin working in rows.
Part Three – Working in Rows Over Heel Stitches Again
Row 1 (WS): DSP, remove marker, purl to marker, remove marker, p1, turn work.
Row 2 (RS): DSK, knit to the previous DSP, knit the DSP stitch together into single stitch, k1, turn work.
Row 3: DSP, purl to the previous DSK, purl the DSK stitch together into single stitch, p1, turn work.
Rep rows 2 & 3 another 7 (8, 9, 10) times.
Next Row (RS): DSK, knit to DSP, knit the DSP stitch together into single stitch. Begin working in the rnd.
Note: One DSK stitch remains. You will work it on the next rnd.
FOOT
Set-Up Rnd: knit to DSK stitch, knit the DSK stitch together into single stitch, knit to end of rnd—48 (56, 64, 72) sts.
