The Road Accident Fund (RAF) says the fund can no longer cater for foreign nationals. It says those who travel to the country should take out insurance for themselves in case of an accident on South African roads. The fund says it has paid out over three billion rands to foreign nationals who were involved in road accidents within the borders of South Africa. This pay-out is between April 2021 and March 2023. Thus the fund seeks to amend the RAF bill to exclude foreign nationals from claiming compensation from the fund. However, a debate arose from this proposal with some opposing this proposed amendment.
