Declawing is a painful and unnecessary surgical amputation of a cat’s toes. Though it is already illegal in many other countries and communities across the United States it is still a legal and common procedure in Michigan. Unsuspecting owners often make the choice to declaw without understanding the severity of the procedure or the pain and problems that result. Studies show that declaw causes lifelong suffering that leads to behavior issues such as biting and litter-box problems. Sadly, cats are commonly left at shelters because of these problems.
