This is the 1969-70 Coopersville JV Boys basketball team. The video is from a reel-to-reel film provided by Scott Veldman from his father, former CHS teacher and coach, Jay Veldman. In addition to teaching English at CHS, Mr. Veldman coached Cross Country and Basketball for many years. He also had a long tenure as a leader in the Boys Scouts of America in the Coopersville area
The 69-70 JV team was led by sophomores Ron Bush, Robbie Thomas, Arnie Aguilera, Tom Posthumus, and freshmen Ron Mengel and Steve Bennink. The roster was rounded out by a support crew of sophomores Dan Veeneman, Dennis Byrne, Al Heath, Steve Brown, and Bradley Moore.
Although the team had only 6 wins versus 10 losses that season, this video is of a home game on Friday night, December 12, 1969, against Cedar Springs that ended up in the win column, 57-54.
The accompanying Coopersville Observer article dated 12/23/1969 indicates that the Broncos were led in scoring by Ron Bush (18 points) and Steve Bennink (16 points).
