ARE YOU AFRAID OF GETTING SHOTS???
You don't need to be!!
Learn how to make your shot hurt less using my ButterArm Technique!!
Step 1
Determine the dominant arm and plan to give the shot in the other arm, unless the patient has a strong preference.
Step 2
Lean back in your chair, and let your arm and shoulder hang down loose.
If the muscle is hard and tense, it will make the shot hurt more.
The goal is to make your muscle soft like butter, and the shot will hurt less!
Step 3
Keep breathing!
Holding your breath can make your muscle tight.
Step 4
Keep still when you get the shot. Avoid any flinching or jerking, which will make the shot hurt more.
Step 5
Ask the patient if they want to watch.
This gives them control of the situation.
Parents, just because you don't want to watch, don't assume your kids don’t want to watch!

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
FOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS
-Always assume the patient is nervous.
-Ask the patient if they want the shot at the beginning of the visit to get it
out of the way.
-Give a step by step explanation of what's going to happen.
FOR PATIENTS
-Tell your provider if you are nervous. They may think you are as cool as a cucumber!
-Ask to have your shot at the beginning of the visit.
-Ask your provider if you need more details about the shot
