Are you getting the most out of your Frozen Ocean Feeds?
Our 100% biosecure, gamma-irradiated frozen polychaetes are key to successful aquaculture, but their unique processing means they need a specific, careful thawing method to maintain tissue integrity and maximize nutritional value for your broodstock.
This video walks you through the Enhanced Thawing Method to prevent cell rupture, nutrient loss, and physical damage, ensuring you achieve optimal production results!
🔑 Critical Thawing Rules:
Salinity is Non-Negotiable: ALWAYS thaw polychaetes in full-strength saltwater (≈30 ppt). Thawing in low-salinity or freshwater causes osmotic imbalance and cell damage.
Float, Don't Sink: Let the 1 kg block float freely in the saltwater. This prevents damaging pressure on the worms at the bottom.
Thaw the Whole Block: It is highly recommended to thaw the entire 1 kg block. Cutting it into smaller pieces will damage a percentage of the polychaetes.
Gentle Handling: After thawing, handle the worms with extreme care. Never squeeze or apply intense force with your hands.
🧊 Recommended Step-by-Step Thawing Process:
Prepare Your Trays: Use a perforated tray nested inside a solid tray.
Add Saltwater: Fill the trays with enough saltwater for the 1 kg block to float, without overflowing the inner perforated tray.
Thaw Completely: Place the 1 kg block inside the inner tray and allow it to fully thaw.
Careful Transfer (Feeding Broodstock):
Case 1 (Feeding 1 kg per tank): Take the perforated tray to the maturation tank. Submerge the tray into the tank water (don't flip it in the air) and carefully spread the worms.
Case 2 (Feeding less than 1 kg per tank): Bring the feeding containers near the tray, carefully divide and weigh the portions, and feed immediately.
