A very tasty home made dish made from Unakkameen (dry fish). Unakkameen chammanthi podi can be preserved for a long time. Try this unique dry fish crispy chutney.
Ingredients and method:
Dry fish - 1/2 kg.(Dry Sole Fish/manhal)
Grated Coconut - 1 coconut
Garlic - 1 pod
Big onion - sliced ( 2 medium)
Green Chilly - 5
Ginger - 2 pieces
Turmeric powder - 1 spoon
Chilly powder - 2 spoon
Curry leaves/salt and oil
Clean the dry fish, remove the skin and wash it. Strain the water completely from the fish - use a cloth to wipe the water.
Remove the head and tail of the fish and cut into small pieces. Crush these fish with a grinder.
Crush the green chilly , ginger and garlic -add 4 tb spoon coconut oil to a kadai and add the crushed green chilly, garlic and ginger once the oil becomes hot, saute it a little bit and add the onion. When onion fried a little, add turmeric powder and chilly powder. Fry a bit and add the crushed dry fish, stir and mix it well and then add grated coconut.It takes almost 15-20 minutes for the chammanthi podi to be ready. After 10 minutes add curry leaves and fry till it becomes brown. We can keep it for long if kept in a clean air tight jar.
