North Bay road in the Andaman Islands
🛣️ Inauguration / Opening
A new road route connecting Port Blair to North Bay Island via Chunna Bhatta / Sri Vijaya Puram was officially opened on 30 April 2025 to improve access for tourists and locals. The construction was aimed at providing a scenic land route in addition to the traditional boat access to North Bay.
This route allows visitors to travel by road part of the way, making it easier to reach North Bay Island for its famous coral reefs, water sports, and sightseeing.
📍 History & Purpose
North Bay Island itself has long been a popular tourist destination near Port Blair in the Andamans, reached traditionally by boat.
The idea of improving road connectivity—through areas like Chunna Bhatta and Sri Vijaya Puram—is a recent development (2025) to support tourism growth and provide an alternate route.
