MV Northern Expedition HD

Описание: A Tour of BC Ferries' Flagship, MV Northern Expedition. Built in 2009 in Flensburg Germany. Conceived in the Mid-2000s, the contract was awarded to Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft unfortunately in the aftermath of the Sinking of the Queen of the North on March 22nd, 2006. Originally, 2 vessels were planned to be built, presumably of the same design, however, due to the loss of the Queen of the North, the 2004 built MV Sonia was bought from Greece, refitted and renamed MV Northern Adventure. Due to the young age of the Northern Adventure, building a 2nd Northern Vessel to replace what would have been the Queen of the North was a moot point. Construction began on September 12th, 2007, 9 months later, her keel was laid on June 16th, 2008. It took another 3 months for her to be launched on the 25th of September 2008. Over the next few months her passenger superstructure was attached piece by piece and her interior and exterior outfitted. On January 29th, 2009 she departed Flensburg and began her voyage to British Columbia. After 35 Days traversing the English Channel, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and up the West Coast of North America she arrived in British Columbia at Departure Bay Terminal on March 5th, 2009. A few weeks prior to her inaugural sailing in Prince Rupert on the 19th of April, the Northern Expedition joined with the Northern Adventure to give a ceremonial send-off to the Queen of Prince Rupert celebrating her 43 years of service on the North Coast. This was the only time the three vessels were together in the same place. One month later, The Northern Expedition made her inaugural sailing from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert on May 18th, 2009. Since then she has served the North Coast year round. In the summer season she mainly serves Route 10 between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert. In the off-season, her workload increases with stops at the Mid-Coast Terminals in Bella Bella and Klemtu as well as operating Route 11 between Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii.
