Full circle moment in Waikiki for UH Beach volleyball's Serrano

Описание: The University of Hawaii beach volleyball team returns home this week after one of its most memorable wins of the young season.

The 13th-ranked Rainbow Wahine will host six matches at the Heineken Queen’s Cup beginning Thursday at Queen’s Beach, with competition running through Saturday.

Two weeks ago, Hawai‘i delivered a statement victory over the top-ranked UCLA beach volleyball in Waikīkī. The dual came down to the decisive fifth match, where the pair of Kristen Serrano and Keira Cornman secured the clinching point for the Rainbow Wahine.

For Serrano, the moment carried added meaning.

The former University of Guam student-athlete said the opportunity to compete for Hawai‘i began with a video filmed at the same beach courts where she helped deliver the upset victory.

“It all happened so quickly,” Serrano said. “I was in class and I got the email and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ When I visited, I actually took a picture from the beach courts and said, ‘In my dreams.’ And now I’m here, so it’s very unreal and one of the biggest blessings in my life.”

Serrano also spoke about the pride she carries representing Guam while competing for Hawai‘i.

“I take so much pride in that,” she said. “I always try to inspire the people back home. I want them to know that the dream is possible.”

The victory over the Bruins came down to the final match on the sand, a moment Serrano said captures why the team works so hard.

“That feeling is what I want to keep feeling throughout the season,” she said. “Our team worked so hard to get to those moments. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my teammates winning their matches and cheering us on. It was super magical.”
