Speech Therapy, language development and DIR Floortime. How to tailor language for FEDC 4-6.

Описание: Speech and Language development go hand-in-hand with a child's social emotional development (using the DIR Floortime therapy approach). If we understand both these developments well, we can be more effective in our therapy outcomes, killing 2 birds with one stone.
However, when we work on one without the other (e.g., speech therapy and/or language therapy without DIR Floortime for children with Autism), foundational steps may be overlooked and this affects the child's long-term, holistic development.
In this talk, we recap the various Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDC) and link the language development each step of the way.

In DIR Floortime model, Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities are as follows:
FEDC 4 is Complex Communication and Shared Social Problem Solving.
FEDC 5 is Using Symbols and Creating Emotional Ideas.
FEDC 6 is Logical Thinking and Building Bridges Between Ideas.
At these stages, the child's language abilities grows exponentially and it is important to ensure that their use of ideas are logically linked with their use of language. They mean what they say and they understanding goes beyond both the verbal and non-verbal realms.
