Eric Yu writes “Could you help to give some advice on how to apply marketing PhD programs?” What is the best doctoral program for you to choose? This is meant for people thinking about graduate school in business programs.

Often, you might want to think about many different factors that matter for a doctoral program:

The productivity of the faculty. There are two metrics that you might want to consider: Overall productivity and the productivity per faculty.
Productivity can be counted in terms of number of publications, the number of editorial positions, or things like that.

The placements of the students. Where are the doctoral students going to, and do they get jobs relatively easily.

The culture of the program. You will often get a sense of the doctoral program but just interacting with the people at the program. Are they friendly? Are the people helpful? Do you feel comfortable talking to those people?

When would you choose marketing, management, or organizational behavior? Are you more interested in people or macro factors? Can you see yourself studying that material for years to come?

Rather than think about the doctoral program, you might want to also consider faculty that are doing things that you find interesting, or that you resonate with.
