For 5 years, I worked for a small government contractor, where I sharpened my teeth and became VP of Business Development. After my rise in the company, things became political, and a few were gunning for my position. I left after being setup for a failed contract, and was quickly reminded I signed a 2-year non-compete..this meant I couldn’t bid contracts any longer.

“On this night, I was crying with my partner Lala. Nothing was working out. I tried to interview and leave this govcon job, I had a great resume, and nothing was working. In that moment God said to me… ‘Derek, you’re showing me the wrong kind of faith. Staying at this job, seeing it through, and keeping the golden handcuffs is playing it safe. You have to do the scariest thing you can possibly do, which is to leave this job with no plan, but trust in me that everything will work out’”. The next week I put in my notice and left. I trusted God had a bigger plan for me, and I knew it was time to go. But I had no idea what would come from it…

This is where GovKidMethod was born. I started helping other govcons in the space to win contracts and haven’t looked back since 2018. In an age of scammers and misrepresentation across all industries, this is why I have a channel, sell a course, and run a challenge that gets real results and real contract wins for my clients in this space. I help my clients bid and help build businseses, so my focus and priorities have evolved with the growth of GovKidMethod.
