In rural self-built houses, a lintel is a beam set above the openings of doors and windows !
The Lintel Mainly Has The Following Function :
Bear The Load Above The Opening
After door and window openings are made in the wall, the weight of the wall above the opening and the loads that may come from the floor slab, roof slab, etc. above the opening need to be transferred to the walls on both sides of the opening through the lintel to avoid these loads directly acting on the door and window frames and causing deformation or damage to the doors and windows !
Ensure Structural Stability
The lintel can enhance the structural strength and stability of the wall at the door and window openings, making the overall structure of the house more solid and reliable !
There are various types of lintels. Commonly seen ones include reinforced concrete lintels, brick arch lintels, reinforced brick lintels, etc. In rural self-built houses, an appropriate lintel type can be selected for construction according to the actual situation !
The Construction Process Of Lintels Is As Follows :
I. Preparation Work
1. Determine the size and specifications of the lintel
According to the size of door and window openings, the load above, and architectural design requirements, determine the length, width, and height of the Lintel !
2. Prepare materials
Purchase appropriate materials such as steel bars, concrete, and formwork. Ensure that the quality of materials meets relevant standards !
3. Prepare tools
Prepare the tools required for construction, such as mixers, vibrators, formwork clamps, etc.
II. Formwork Erection
1. Install formwork above the door and window openings to ensure the flatness and verticality of the formwork. The size of the formwork should match the size of the Lintel !
2. Use formwork clamps or supports to fix the formwork to prevent it from deforming or shifting during concrete pouring !
III. Fabrication And Installation Of Steel Bars
1. According to design requirements, fabricate the steel bar skeleton of the lintel. The diameter, spacing, and length of steel bars should comply with design Specifications !
2. Place the steel bar skeleton into the formwork and ensure the accurate position of steel bars. Pads or steel bar supports can be used to maintain the protective layer thickness of steel bars !
IV. Concrete Pouring
1. Prepare Concrete
According to the design mix ratio, mix cement, sand, gravel, and water evenly to make Concrete !
2. Pour Concrete
Slowly pour the concrete into the formwork from one end to the other to ensure that the concrete fills the entire form work !
3. Vibrate Concrete
Use a vibrator to vibrate the concrete to make it dense and remove the air inside. During vibration, be careful to avoid excessive vibration to prevent concrete segregation !
V. Curing
1. After concrete pouring is completed, cure the lintel in time. Methods such as covering with wet cloth and sprinkling water can be used to keep the concrete surface moist !
2. The curing time is generally not less than 7 days, and the curing time can be appropriately extended according to conditions such as temperature and humidity !
VI. Formwork Removal
1. When the concrete strength reaches the design requirements, the formwork can be removed. Operate carefully during formwork removal to avoid damaging the surface and corners of the Lintel !
2. After formwork removal, inspect the lintel and repair any defects in time !
The above is the general construction process of lintels. Specific construction methods may vary depending on regions, building types, and construction conditions. During the construction process, operations should be strictly carried out in accordance with relevant specifications and standards to ensure the quality and safety of Lintels !
