This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Individuals often have to motivate others to accomplish a goal. While incentives are frequently used, they can sometimes lead to much unintended consequences. Dr. James Agee provides relevant examples from a variety of settings of when incentives go bad.
Dr. James Agee is a professor at Trevecca Nazarene University where he teaches management and statistics. When he’s not teaching he provides consulting services in statistics and human resources management, and coaching youth soccer.
On the TEDxAntioch stage, Dr. Agee shares his idea that misplaced incentives in an organization can lead to unintended consequences, something he’s learned over and over as a parent!
After years of tinkering with different methods to motivate his children and his students, Dr. James Agee shares his thoughts on incentives and their potential dangers.
