Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from etrailer, and today, I have Jason from REDARC. And if you've heard the name REDARC, chances are it's from the overland experience and all the electronics to power those, as well as your trailers. And here at etrailer, they're well-known for the brake controllers that we install on a lot of different vehicles. They offer a nice small knob that really makes for a super clean installation. No more knee knocking. Great options for those of you that have a plug and play option.
But sometimes you run into issues when it comes to having to run wires to get your breakout put. And if that's the case, whether you have a lease vehicle or something that isn't factory prep for a plugin brake controller, REDARC has a new option. And Jason, what is the new option The link is the newest addition to the REDARC line of brake controllers. We look at it, we're kind of like, good, better, I'm not gonna say this, better better, and then best. So what you're...
You're exactly right on the idea that the vehicles are getting a little tougher to get into the electronics. If I look at a 2019 Ford F-150, for instance, I have to go ahead and have the whole computer flashed. If I try putting in an aftermarket brake controller, look at a 2024 Tacoma. Toyota Tacoma does not have the plug for an aftermarket brake controller underneath that kick panel. So what we're trying to do is get away from the idea of integrating too deeply into the electronics of the vehicle, making it very simple for the end user to install the product.
And still, you want smooth, safe delivery of trailer brakes on this. So the main unit would just be mounted up underneath by the trailer hitch on a frame rail, and it has metal straps that come with it to install. And this is basically going to the USCAR, U-S-C-A-R, connector. I would just simply unplug that, and I would plug this right into the truck harness, and that's it. Literally, we're putting these things on in about five minutes.
And then what happens is this model has been out with a competitor for a little while, and one of the big things you do with Bluetooth is obviously now you're gonna be running this off of an app. If this is in someone else's hands in the vehicle, or if this is running music, or someone's watching a movie on this and I have to hit the Oh Shoot button to get this thing to stop, that can be problematic. There's a chance you're not gonna have the app up, it's not gonna be the first one there, and you could have that trailer swaying and you might be close to that yard sale on the highway. So what we've done is read our. Actually, took this into account, and this is the remote that comes with it. This is standard, this was not an afterthought, this was an actual item that was designed during the design process to work with it. I can set the gain on this. I can see fault codes on this and I have the Oh Shoot button. So the trailer starts swaying. We use what's called SwayStop 2.0. So what happens is once you push the button, it actually senses the movement of that back end of the truck swaying back there 'cause it has six axis that are used to determine which direction things are moving around. So, as it senses that movement, it will immediately put the trailer brakes on with the light, but you can get your hand back on the steering wheel. You don't have to keep your hand on that button. So it's either gonna wait for everything to smooth out, or if you push it again, it will shut that feature off, which is really nice. It's a great safety feature to be able to do that. Now, the remote itself has its own dedicated connection to the actual control unit. The other thing that this does is you have the ability to test what is going on with all the light functions. It would go through and run a test on all the lights. On the trailer brakes, everything would be tested, so you don't have to get out of the vehicle and go have someone look at the lights. So it's one-person set up for the vehicle. Brad Do you have multiple different styles of braking on this, or are you limited to just proportional, or, you know So like our Elite models and like our Tow-Pro Trail Kits, it has the two different modes. We have the proportional style, which is pretty normal, where you're basically setting the gain of the brakes so that the more you push on your brakes and it feels the vehicle's stopping, the more the trailer breaks are c
