Rocket Ranger - Atari ST / STE

Описание: In this video, Rocket Ranger, released in 1989 for the Atari ST by Cinemaware.
We are in 1940, sitting in our laboratory trying to solve some challenging physics problems, when some futuristic objects and a message materialize in front us: the objects are a jet pack that allows us to fly freely in the sky and a laser gun, while the message informs us that the Nazis are about to win world war II thanks to a technological advantage that will give them the lunarium, a substance that they extract from the moon.
The Nazis have just kidnapped Otto Barnstorff, America's greatest scientist, and his daughter Jane, and are fleeing across the Atlantic with the dirigible Zeppelin. Our first objective is to free them. From our base in Fort Dix, we will also have to infiltrate various secret Nazi bases around the world, to steal the lunarium and parts to build a lunar rocket in order to be able to reach and conquer the enemy base on the moon, where mind-controlled slaves work on the extraction of the lunarium. After defeating the guards, we will also have to face an alien, who is an ally of the Nazis and the source of their inexplicable technological advances.
Graphically superb for the era with a nice 30s' style soundtrack Rocket Ranger lacks smoothness in nearly every mini game the game is made of. Animations are sluggish and the fps drops dramatically when we are flying and firing at the Messerschmidts. The ST version also lacks some sessions like the take off sequence. Having said that, the playability is still ok.
Fun fact: the copy protection of the game was the physical cardboard wheel you must use to load lunarium in the rocket chamber to fly from point A to point B. Load the wrong quantity and it's game over as you can see at the end of the video.
