Season 01: Episode 21: "Hornitas Town" Bonner has been transferred to Hornitas, a gold mining community that is said to be free of the violence that is frequent in other mining villages. He discovers that the sheriff is actually crooked and demands protection money from his citizens, which isn't so different after all. To make things even worse, Bonner's only friend in town is a fanatical pacifist who makes him check his gun with her and not use it while he's in town.

The Restless Gun was an American Western TV show that ran on NBC from 1957 to 1959. John Payne played Vint Bonner, a traveling cowboy who lived in the years after the American Civil War. Bonner is a talented gunfighter who believes in resolving conflicts peacefully wherever possible. He is smart, friendly, and cares about the community. The half-hour black-and-white show had 78 episodes, including the pilot episode in which the character played by John Payne is named Britt Poinsett. This is the same name as James Stewart's character in the 1953–54 old-time radio series The Six Shooter, which was the basis for The Restless Gun television series.

The official title of the Restless Gun theme song is "I Ride with the Wind." It starts with the words, "I ride with the wind, my eyes on the sun, and my hand on my restless gun..."
