In today’s Gospel, Jesus didn’t speak in future tense. He didn't say, “You will be salt,” or “One day you will be light.” He says, “You are…”
This means the question is no longer whether we are salt and light, but whether we are living our true identity. Salt that stays in the jar changes nothing. Light that is hidden serves no one. When our faith is reduced to words, roles, or activities, the Gospel loses its flavor and its brightness. Jesus warns us gently but clearly: salt can lose its taste; light can be hidden.
For us today, this becomes a moment of honest discernment.
