It's some sight...and certainly amusing... the way adults gracefully saunter across then tumble and bounce as their children run wild and clatter against the inflatable pre-historic stone-like structures which wobble slightly with the all the goings on.

Glasgow Green has become a temporary home to Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller's 'sacrilege', an inflatable Stonehenge which makes its debut at Glasgow International Festival before moving onto other locations and to feature in London during the Olympic games.

It certainly achieves a lot of the artist's intentions; it engages with people young and old... Visiting it on a Sunday Afternoon the buzz and sound around this is quite mesmerizing, a playful sight that does not impose its 'artistic' message by isolating people or making them not welcome. I'm sure people will take it for what it is -- but it's interesting and thought provoking in equal measures.

Why Stonehenge -- a spontaneous idea -- a mad gesture -- or for some educational creativity? Initially one can wonder why here -- Glasgow Green, how does it respond to this place and context -- what's the connection with Glasgow ? I would kind of like there to be one... although there clearly is not any attachment or sense of belonging to this site. This is big and bold, The more I think about it, this is about playing with cultures and making connections with a distant generation and history, at odds with our constant search for enjoyment and excitement. Perhaps Jeremy Deller's statement 'This is a city where you can get things done as an artist' says it all -- You can try to do anything under the name of art, just find somewhere to facilitate it.. and let the people decide... It's definitely fun though!
