The Agustín Pereyra Lucena Quartet was formed around the Argentine guitarist Agustín Pereyra Lucena, with Guillermo Reuter on bass and piano, Rubén Izarrualde on flute, and Finn Sletten on drums and percussion. The quartet is known for blending Latin jazz, bossa nova, and folk-inflected improvisation with deep melodic sensibility.
Their music on the 1980 album «La Rana» highlights Pereyra Lucena’s expressive guitar playing, supported by gentle interaction from the other musicians, blending Brazilian influences with original compositions.
«3 Horas Da Manha» is one of the album’s standout tracks, marked by a serene yet playful Latin-jazz mood within the quartet’s intimate sound world.
«La Rana» was originally recorded in Oslo in 1979 and released in 1980, and in 2021 Far Out Recordings issued a thoughtful reissue of the album, remastered and reintroduced to a new generation of listeners.
