Thirty three thousand years ago, in the forests, plains and hills of Europe, changes began to appear in the early humans that had migrated north. Culture and technology amongst the tribes and simple communities that covered the region had begun to advance, and artifacts unearthed from across the continent show that it was developing fast. Parts of Europe had begun to transition from the Aurignacian culture, into what has become known as the Gravettian culture. The former was characterised by the development of sculptures as art, highly developed tools made from bone or antler, and the beautiful, detailed cave paintings synonymous with the stone age, such as those found in France's Chauvet Cave.
