Decebalus (ruled 87–106 AD) was the last king of Dacia, which was located in what is now Romania. He is considered a national hero in Romania for his resistance against the Roman Empire, which ultimately led to the preservation of the Dacian culture and language. Despite being defeated by the Roman Emperor Traian, Decebalus' legacy has endured through the centuries, and he remains an important figure in Romanian history and cultural identity.
The Decebalus statue is located in Romania, near the city of Orsova, next to the Danube river. The statue was carved into a cliff face on the right bank of the Danube and is the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. It was completed in 2004 and it has 55 meters tall. It has become a popular tourist attraction and symbol of Romanian national pride.
The idea belonged to the businessman Iosif Constantin Dragan, a passionate man about the history of the Dacians and the Thracians.
