Dr Margot Putukian
MD, FACSM, FAMSSM
Speaking on: Return to Play: Beyond the Science
Dr Putukian is the Chief Medical Officer of Major League Soccer. She is the former Director of Athletic Medicine and Head Team Physician at Princeton University, the past president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, has served as a team physician for the US Men’s National Lacrosse team, and currently serves as Team Physician for the U-20 Women’s and Women’s National Soccer team.
Dr Putukian has been a co-author on several Team Physician Consensus Statements, the AMSSM Position Statements on Concussion and Mental Health and the IOC Mental Health in Elite Athletes Statement as well as an editor for the Netter’s Sports Medicine textbook and several other peer-reviewed publications. She has been an invited participant and co-author for the Zurich, Berlin and upcoming Amsterdam International Concussion in Sport Group Conferences. She serves on the National Football League’s Head Neck & Spine Committee, the FA Research Task Force, the IOC Mental Health Work Group, and the USOPC Mental Health Task Force and just completed her term as chair for the Clinical Sports Medicine Leadership Committee for the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr Christina L. Master
MD, CAQSM (Pediatrics and Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, CHOP)
Speaking on: Minds Matter: Seeing Concussion Through New Eyes
Dr Master is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and Associate Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at CHOP with almost three decades of experience in clinical pediatrics. She is board-certified in pediatrics, sports medicine, and brain injury medicine and treats over a eight hundred children with concussion annually in her outpatient practice.
She is co-founding director of Minds Matter, the concussion program for children at CHOP that provides clinical care, community outreach and conducts research in youth concussion. Her particular research emphasis has been describing the epidemiology of pediatric concussion and identifying objective biomarkers for visual deficits following concussion as well as targeting those deficits for intervention for those with prolonged symptoms in order to improve their outcomes.
Dr Siobhan Statuta
Speaking on: IOC Sport Mental Health Assessment Tool
Dr Statuta is a Sports Medicine Primary Care specialist and has been part of the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine since 2007.
A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Biology, she worked as a medical assistant and surgical technologist for an orthopedic practice that specializes in sports injuries. This experience spurred her to pursue a formal medical education. She completed her primary care focused medical training with a sports medicine fellowship in 2011.
After joining the faculty at UVA, she created a practice which focuses mainly on sports medicine split between providing primary care to the Division 1 collegiate athletes as one of the two team physicians and community athletes at The Runner’s Clinic. In addition, she serves as the director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and teaches residents and medical students on a daily basis. Beyond the university setting, she serves as one of the team physicians for the Under-20’s US Soccer Women’s National Team. Her professional interests include the care of runners, female athletes, and mental health considerations in sports.
