🚗 Do you get a longer driving ban for a second drink driving offence?
The answer is YES - and it's more serious than many people realise! ⚠️
✅ There are TWO reasons why second offences result in longer bans:
📅 REASON ONE: The 36-month minimum rule
🔹 If convicted twice within 10 years, you face a minimum 36-month ban
🔹 The 10-year period runs from conviction date of first offence to commission date of second offence
🔹 This minimum can be reduced with a drink driver rehabilitation course (if the court allows it)
🔹 Courts often won't allow the course for repeat offenders
⚖️ This applies to various offences including driving with excess alcohol, driving whilst unfit, excess drugs, failing to provide specimens, and causing death or serious injury by drink/drug driving
📈 REASON TWO: Previous convictions are aggravating factors
🔹 Courts must consider your criminal history when sentencing
🔹 This affects not just driving bans but also fines, community orders, or prison sentences
🔹 The more offences you commit, the higher up the sentencing scale you go
🚨 The consequences get progressively more serious with each conviction!
