Sacramento River Cleanup, 1/1/26

Описание: RCWA started off the New Year with our 5th annual cleanup along the beautiful Sacramento River. This one-mile stretch is one of David’s adopted areas and we are always excited to help!

Even though we have visited this area in previous years, we still uncovered some old, legacy items. For the most part, however, the vast majority of trash was from illegal dumping, irresponsible fishermen, and river revelers. It is sad to see beautiful, riparian habitats carelessly trashed, but we want nature to shine! ✨

Among our finds were food wrappers, clothes, blankets, rugs, tarps, clay roofing tiles, electronics, household door, 2-3 office chairs, a burned metal filing cabinet, metal bed frame, folding chair, metal roofing, a front bumper, hubcaps, and more. We made piles along the roadway and David loaded them all in the trailer. Our haul was an impressive 2,560 pounds!

After the cleanup, we convened at David’s house for a New Year’s toast, but first he had one more project for us. He snagged and tethered an old, derelict waverunner and needed some badger help to bring it to land. With ropes and muscle, it was pulled up in no time and brought to the road for disposal. What a great way to celebrate the new year and start 2026 off strong.

With the progress we have made in our local waterways, we are looking forward to what this year will bring!
