First up is the WellBe virtual health assistant smart speaker. It looks similar to an Alexa device. It is voice-activated and can be placed anywhere in your home as long as it can be plugged into an electrical outlet.

In the event of a medical emergency simply say "OK WellBe, Emergency".

But the smart speaker is much more than just a voice-activated medical alert system.

While Amie was testing out the WellBe smart speaker, she did notice a few downsides: WellBe didn’t respond to some of her requests, like “Ok WellBe, I need help.” or “I have fallen down”. Amie's concern is that in a true emergency, she's not sure everyone would remember to say the specific phrase that activates a call to emergency help. Lastly, if the power goes out in your home, the WellBe smart speaker will only run for a few hours and will not operate if it’s not connected to wifi.

Now, let’s take a look at the WellBe emergency alert smartwatch. In terms of looks, the watch has similar aesthetics to an Apple Watch or Fitbit. The WellBe smartwatch is not only a 4G cellular medical alert system, but it also tracks your activity and heart rate. It responds to voice commands and you can access the WellBe smart speaker features from the smartwatch. The WellBe smartwatch is water-resistant and can be worn while washing your hands and even bathing. The smartwatch should be charged every day and will last for about 24 hours, depending on usage. You do not need a cell phone for the smartwatch to work, but someone with a smartphone will need to use the WellBe app to set it up for you.

In the event of a medical emergency simply push the button on the side of the watch.

While Amie was testing out the WellBe smartwatch, she did notice a few downsides. She has a small wrist and this smartwatch is not something she could wear comfortably. The watch face measures 1 ½ inch wide and 1 ⅞ inch tall.

The other downside is that there is no automatic fall detection option. If this is a feature you are looking for in a medical alert system, make sure to look at other alert systems with fall detection.

Costs for WellBe. The smart speaker costs $189. This is a one-time cost, no monthly fees are needed. The WellBe smartwatch costs $179.95 and requires a subscription to operate. Currently, the subscription cost is $34.95. This monthly cost covers the 24/7 access to professional emergency monitoring services and is comparable with other leading cellular medical alert systems on the market today.
