Government says UK must prepare for emerging AI attacks

AI Minister Kanishka Narayan warned about the dangers of tech giants self-policing, saying mandatory safety reporting should be introduced, along with tighter controls on the most advanced models.

The minister’s stark warning follows the recent OpenAI breach in Australia but also that the government plans to use AI to strengthen the UK's national cyber defences.

We spoke to Nigel Inkster, who was director for operations and intelligence at MI6 and now advises on cyber-security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

We began by asking whether the minister was right in saying it's likely, if not inevitable, that British systems are breached by AI.
