This is a comparison test of the microphone preamps between a stock Chameleon Labs 7602, and a Chameleon Labs 7602 mkII X Mod. NO EQ has been utilized in an effort to keep this test simple. Every sample is A raw, dry, unprocessed track.

A second video focusing on the EQ portions of these pieces will be forthcoming.

The info provided regarding the gear itself is probably correct, but if I got something wrong whoops. Correct me and I'll correct it.

The song used to demonstrate these pieces is a LOOSELY based, or maybe simply "inspired by" version of "MONKEY TRICK" by The Jesus Lizard".
I took many liberties and offer apologies to the band, as well as the listeners for the sloppy, not quite the right notes version presented here. I love this song, it's fun to play and you can just deal with it, I did.

The samples you hear have been precisely level matched to give as fair and even comparison as possible, but there are some important details to be aware of:

RECORDING DETAILS:
1. This test was originally set to feature the bass drum, snare drum and bass guitar in the comparison as well. To do this, I had to record different takes of the drums, which meant that the other instruments could not simply be a single DI re-amped... So, Each take is a different performance. However, and quite relevantly... this should only be an issue for ultra-mega confused professional You Tube gear comparison video nerds. Why do I say that? Because in the real world, in a real studio where an engineer might be making a decision on what preamp to use on what instrument... they are almost certainly NOT requiring the musician to track to a DI so the Eng. can ramp and have the same performance to level match... come on people. We throw the mics up, get a listen and make a decision.

2. In an effort to attempt to minimize the inherent differences of these unique performances, I DID attempt to play the parts that are used as samples as closely as possible. The parts of the songs chosen to sample were chosen BECAUSE they were the most similar. Yeah, you can either hear the minuscule differences between these preamps or you can't but it's not because they are different performances. It's just you, being a You Tube Dufus.

3. The kick drum in every take was actually the CL7602 Stock
4. The snare drum was the CL7602 mkII X mod 300ohm in every take.
5. The bass was tracked through a Neotek Series 1 (tones from a Sansamp RBI)
6. Guitar was a GIBSON USA SG.
7. Amp was a VOX AC4HW
8. Cab/Speaker was a Alnico Blue in an open back Avatar
9. Guitar Microphone was a Roswell Pro Audio K67
