Georg Andreas Sorge wurde 1703 in Mellenbach in Thüringen geboren. Ersten Musikunterricht erhielt er bei dem Kantor Kaspar Tischer in Schney. Nach Abschluß seines Musikstudiums trat er 1721 die Stelle eines Gräflich Reuß-Plauischen Hoforganisten in Lobenstein an, die er bis zu seinem Tode 1778 - also immerhin 57 Jahre lang - innehatte. 1747 wurde Sorge als 15. Mitglied und direkt nach Johann Sebastian Bach in Lorenz Christoph Mizlers "Correspondierende Societät der musicalischen Wissenschaften" aufgenommen. Sorges qualifizierte Schriften über den Zusammenhang zwischen Mathematik und Musik, insbesondere seine Schrift "Ausführliche und deutliche Anweisung zur Rational-Rechnung" sowie die "Anweisung zur Stimmung und Temperatur sowohl der Orgelwerke, als auch anderer Instrumente, sonderlich aber des Claviers. In einem Gespräche zwischen einem Musico theoretico und seinem Scholaren“ sind bis heute bedeutsam. Aber auch als Komponist war Sorge produktiv. Er schrieb nahezu ausschließlich Musik für das "Clavier" und die Orgel, wobei die Aufführbarkeit meist auf allen Tasteninstrumenten stilgerecht möglich ist. In seinem Stil verbindet Sorge gründliche Kenntnis aller barocken Formen und des Kontrapunkts mit einer ausgesprochenen Neigung zu eleganten und gefälligen Wendungen.
Das hier zu hörende Praeludium stammt aus Sorges "Clavier-Übung - in sich haltend 24 melodieuse, vollstimmige und nach modernen Gusto durch den gantzen Circulum Modorum Musicorum gesetzten Praeludiis, welche sich sowohl auf der Orgel, als auch auf dem Clavicymbel und Clavichordio mit Vergnügen hören lassen."

Die Aufnahme entstand an der 1818 von Friedrich Wilhelm Trampeli erbauten Orgel in der Liebfrauenkirche zu Auma in Thüringen.
