The Tamil Nadu Waqf Board has declared Kattukkolai village in Vellore as Waqf property, issuing eviction notices to over 150 families. Villagers allege their ancestral land is being grabbed. A Tamil Nadu Congress MLA assures no eviction will occur but states once a property is registered as Waqf, it remains Waqf. The newly passed Waqf amendment bill requires approval from a senior government officer for Waqf claims and aims to protect public and tribal lands from illegal claims.
