Without a universal present, the idea of time flowing becomes difficult to define physically.

In the relativistic picture, spacetime is a four-dimensional structure. Events are not created moment by moment. They are embedded in geometry. The equations of physics do not contain a moving present. They describe relations between events.

Even more radically, some approaches to quantum gravity suggest that time may not be fundamental at all. Instead, it may emerge from deeper structures involving information and entanglement.

What we call “time” could be a macroscopic effect — similar to temperature. Real at our scale, but not part of the universe’s most basic ingredients.

The feeling that time moves may come from entropy, memory, and the way our brains process information — not from the structure of reality itself.

Time may not be a thing that exists independently.

It may be a way of describing change.
