Day 336 of 365 | Daily Art Challenge
This wasn’t the painting I set out to create today. After spotting the first green tips of snowdrops pushing through frosty grass on my morning walk, I planned to paint them again - a quiet little nod to one of the very first paintings from this challenge.
But as I worked into a dark, moody forest background, something unexpected happened. The soft hazy orbs I’d imagined between the trees slowly transformed into fireflies, and the painting took on a life of its own. A small glass jar appeared, nestled in the snow, surrounded by the snowdrops I’d planned all along - only now it was bursting open with tiny glowing lights, fireflies spilling out across the canvas.
When I first finished, I didn’t like it at all and nearly painted over it. Instead, I followed my own advice: step away, breathe, make a cup of tea, look again with fresh eyes. And when I returned… I realised I actually quite liked it.
Sometimes magic needs a little space to be seen.
