"Welcome to Wrench Sense with Nate Johnson! Today, we’re under the hood of a 2000 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L 4-cylinder with 70,000 miles, freshened up after 5+ years in storage—new fluids, brakes, coils, you name it. But here’s the kicker: hesitation on acceleration. Felt powerless at first, then bam, it kicks in. Culprit? A collapsed timing belt tensioner letting the belt slack, messing with cam timing. I pried it up, checked the crank position sensor (wiring’s fine), and confirmed the fix—new tensioner’s on order (Amazon link below if I can’t find just the part!). No full teardown vid, but this quick tip could save your 2.4L from the same stumble. Like, subscribe, and comment your fixes—more to come!"
A short video describing a common hesitation on acceleration problem with Hyundai 2000-2004 2.4 liter motors. Timing belt tensioner failed. Also inspect the crankshaft position sensor for damaged or melted wires. I decided to go ahead and replace the crank sensor on this vehicle.
