The VNR electric truck from Volvo is a fully electric tractor with a range of 275 miles. CCJ chief editor Jason Cannon took it for a test drive to see what it's like behind the wheel. The silence of the truck is one of the most surprising features. You wouldn't know the truck is on unless you're looking at the dash, which is slightly different than the dash of a diesel truck. Brett Pope, Volvo's director of electric vehicles, walks us through the dashboard and operation of the truck to help us better understand how a driver should use it.
After driving the truck, one of the biggest difficulties we noted was with the regeneration brake. This is the electric equivalent of an engine brake. This feature allows you to slow the truck down and charge the battery without applying the service brake. Watch the full video to see how well this feature actually works.
