Описание: Quantum information science has emerged in the last ten years as a hot topic in technology circles, with a significant increase in government research organizations, major information technology companies, and venture capitalists investments. This recent excitement, built on decades of success in basic research, has introduced a broader audience to a field of study previously sequestered within the walls of the academy and advanced research laboratories. Many quantum science core concepts seem exotic and present themselves as unintuitive (even confusing!) to experts and non-experts alike. These concepts include particle-wave duality, interference, entanglement, superposition, and the measurement problem. Coupled with the mathematical machinery required to tackle technical problems, the field retains an air of mystery and barriers to entry abound. Nonetheless, there are several clearly-identified opportunities to gain military advantage through the development and deployment of quantum information technology. In this presentation, Dr. Lopata introduced the field of quantum information science with minimal mystery and jargon, discussed recent advancements and placed a sharp focus on military opportunity and impact to joint operations in the near and far term.
