07-05:48 A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked a move by Biden to halt the deportation of many immigrants for a 100-day period, a swift legal setback for his ambitious immigration agenda. U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, an appointee of Trump in the Southern District of Texas, issued a temporary restraining order that blocks the policy nationwide for 14 days following a legal challenge by Texas.
49-08:26 As of January 26th, travelers entering the United States must present a negative COVID test no older than 3 days. The rule applies to everyone entering the country, even American citizens.
27-09:52 President Biden has taken 33 executive actions in his first six days in office, and there are more to come. Here are some actions Biden has taken so far. Biden rejoined the Paris Agreement on climate change, revoked a permit that Trump granted to the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, and placed a temporary moratorium on oil and gas leasing in the Arctic.
53-12:19 President Biden signed an executive order repealing a Trump policy that banned transgender people from serving in the military. In 2016, the Obama administration announced transgender individuals would be allowed to serve openly in the armed forces. But a year later, then-President Trump reversed the move, saying trans people would "burden" the military with medical costs and "disruption."
20-17:08 Today Biden signed executive orders on housing and ending the Justice Department's use of private prisons as part of what the White House is calling his “racial equity agenda.” Biden needs the support of Congress to push through police reform or new voting rights legislation.
09-21:12 On Monday evening, new accusations were made against U.S. Capitol riot suspect Riley Williams. Williams is accused of stealing Nancy Pelosi’s laptop and trying to sell it to Russia. She was in federal court in D.C. on Monday, where prosecutors said she has been deleting her online presence and possibly switching devices to ultimately destroy evidence. Brad, Yonathan and Vanessa discuss the discrepancies between the punishment for alleged crimes committed by Williams and other rioters, and for example, Kalief Browder, a young Black man from the Bronx, who was arrested in 2010 after being accused of stealing a backpack.
13-24:39 According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, there are now over 100 million novel coronavirus cases worldwide. Over 2.1 million people have died. Over 55 million people have recovered globally. In the United States, over 25 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The current death toll in the United States 423,000 has now surpassed the number of Americans killed in World War II which stand at 405,000.
40-26:48 One of the biggest news stories from the inauguration was the fashion. Gabriela Hearst, who designed Jill Biden’s inauguration gown said the inspiration for the dress was unity. "Unity makes strength, and it is needed for the road ahead," Hearst said in a statement.
49-28:00 Maybe the biggest star of the inauguration was Bernie Sanders, who unwittingly became a meme when he was photographed bundled up and hunched over while sitting in his chair. Many people thought Bernie looked grumpy, while others noted that the senior Vermont Senator was probably just cold.
01-31:15 You could hear the sound of a million hearts breaking at once! Actor Michael B. Jordan is officially off the dating market. Jordan and Lori Harvey (Steve Harvey’s step daughter) put months of speculation to rest on Sunday, January 10, when they shared photos of each other on Instagram.
16-32:11 Former NBA player Dwyane Wade recently proved a dad is never too cool or famous to embarrass his kids. Wade stripped down via Instagram for his 39th birthday and his kids hilariously reacted in the comments.
12-34:53 Singer Justin Timberlake and actress Jessica Biel welcomed their second child, and the baby’s name is….divisive.
