Fred was originally published by Investronica S.A. in Spain in 1984, then re-released by Microbyte in Spain and Quicksilva Ltd. in the UK. Basically a maze game with an Indiana Jones theme, the aim was to escape the levels populated by ghosts, mummies, bats, skeletons and other minor nasties (the acid drops were a particular joy). After completing the game the player was offered the chance to 'build their own' maze: well, choose how of each of the nasties would be there. If you chose the maximum number of each nasty the game slowed to an almost unplayable speed :)
This was great in its time, though I'm not sure why now. The gameplay is pretty boring, with little variety in visuals or sound effects. Still, we wasted enough hours on it.
