Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost of housing surged across the United States. With demand at a record-high and supply nearing record-lows, housing options need to increase to alleviate affordability. However, we find community resistance to different housing choices increasing. This resistance is likely to price-out future generations. Dejan Eskic is a senior research fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah. He is involved in housing, construction and real estate research. His professional career has focused on providing the best information to key decision-makers, whether they’d be local or state officials, executives of national retailers or publicly listed REITs.
Prior to joining the Gardner Policy Institute, he worked as a site selector for major grocery chains throughout the US. Additionally, he has worked on a number of public-private-partnerships relating to Tax Increment Financing, along with numerous real estate market studies and economic development plans.
Before earning a Master’s in Real Estate Development, Eskic earned a B.S. in Urban Planning, both from the University of Utah. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Real Estate Market Analysis at the University of Utah. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
