My 26 Years Walking with the Father
Many people have heard the good news about Jesus Christ, yet they hesitate to step into a church or become a Christian.
Why?
Perhaps some of these thoughts come to mind (and I may be wrong):
• “If I become a Christian, I must give money to the church.”
• “I cannot do many things anymore.”
• “There are many hypocrites in church.”
• “I have no time.”
• “I need to focus on making money because it is never enough.”
• “I have children and responsibilities.”
I understand these thoughts because I once struggled with some of them myself.
So I invite you to listen with an open mind and heart as I share my journey of walking with Jesus for the past 26 years.
Does the God who created Heaven and Earth, who gave His only Son Jesus to take the punishment for our sins, want to take our money, time and resources?
Or could it be the opposite — that He desires to bless us and multiply what we have?
Each person must decide what they believe.
“Must give 10% to church? I already don’t have enough.”
I understand this very well.
When I first came to know Jesus 26 years ago, I was already in debt. I had a car loan, bills to pay and many financial pressures.
Although I was religious — even more religious than my parents — many things in my life were going wrong. Inside I felt miserable, almost like a dead person walking.
One day I sat alone in my car, looked up at the sky and asked,
“God, why is this happening to me?”
That cry did not go unheard.
God sent His children to help me unconditionally. When I gave my life to Jesus, something changed within me. The next morning I woke up feeling a deep peace in my heart. Everything seemed brighter.
My miracle journey began.
I loved worshipping God. When I sang worship songs, tears would flow because God was healing my broken heart. I felt freedom and joy I had never experienced before.
When I understood how Jesus was crucified on the cross for my sins, His love overwhelmed me. From that moment, my life was never the same again.
Giving even when I was still in debt
In my second month as a Christian, I was still in debt.
Yet the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart to give 10% of what I earned.
Ironically, I used to laugh at a friend who gave 10% to church.
But this time I willingly gave.
Sometimes I reduced my personal expenses or even fasted in order to honour God with what I had. I continued giving faithfully through both difficult seasons and good seasons.
It was never about obligation.
It was simply my love for Jesus and my way of putting Jesus first.
Today I can testify that God has blessed my life with abundance in many areas.
“Christians cannot do many things”
Before Christ, I used to drink, smoke and dance at discotheques.
But when I received Christ, something miraculous happened. I no longer had the desire to continue those things.
No one forced me to stop.
Instead, the Holy Spirit slowly worked in my heart. Over time I found joy in healthier and more meaningful things.
Rather than feeling restricted, I felt truly free.
“There are many hypocrites in church”
Yes — the church is perfect until I walk in.
Because I am not perfect either.
The church is made up of people who are all learning and growing.
But the love of the Father in us helps us love and accept one another.
Jesus said,
“Love one another just as I have loved you.”
We are all works in progress.
“I have no time”
Life is busy. We work, earn money, take care of our families and carry many responsibilities.
Sometimes we say we have no time to read the Bible, pray or go to church.
But over the years I realised that it is not really about having time — it is about what we choose to prioritise.
We often have time to scroll social media or watch dramas for hours, yet we say we have no time for God.
Many years ago God gave me a scripture:
Matthew 6:33
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
I chose to apply this verse in my life, putting God first as best as I knew how.
And God has been faithful to His promise.
A deeper revelation
For many years I obeyed this verse even before I fully understood the meaning of righteousness.
Recently God brought me to a church through my mum, where I received fresh revelation about the finished work of the cross and what it means to be the righteousness of God in Christ.
I began learning to be more conscious of Jesus and to dwell in the love of the Father, knowing that He has already prepared all things for us.
Since then I have experienced breakthrough after breakthrough in many areas of my life, including my finances. God has blessed me so that I can bless others.
Our Father has the very best prepared for each one of us. BELIEVE
This song “Thank You for Loving Me” is my humble gratitude to the Father who never gave up on me.
If you are searching for hope, peace, or meaning in life, I pray that one day you will encounter this same love of Jesus that changed my life.
