In another alternae life, I'm an Australian wallaby wrangler, and on my YouTube channel IllyasovaIllawarra, I've been uploading vids of LaMelo Ball playing for my favorite NBL team (but sadly no vids of my favorite player playing for my favorite NBL team), while taking breaks from researching the best methods of wallaby-related animal husbandry.

But in my current life, I haven't seen much of LaMelo Ball yet, and these first vids I'm making him for him are the first chance I've had to really analyze his game. Note: my definition of "analyze" is basically "look at boxscores and extrapolate from there". Even though I made this whole video, I wasn't really paying much attention to what he was actually doing on the court. You think I have time for that? Even in semi-retirement, my time is worth money, and I can edit a video so efficiently that I don't end up actually seeing balls go in holes.

Maybe I'll actually re-watch this one. He did get a triple-double, after all, the youngest player to ever do such a thing (barf). There's bound to be something exciting going on this video, right? Probably a lot better than that cursed Steven Adams triple-double. What a crock of crap that one was.

I'm not a huge fan of these "so-and-so player is the youngest ever to do x" records that get bandied about whenever some young'un goes out and does some notable thing. In this case, obviously, it's LaMelo Ball and being the youngest player ever to get a triple-double (I mentioned that already, come on, pay attention). I feel like Lonzo Ball previously held that record, and maybe Markelle Fultz broke it or something, but it's still a totally BS record that no one should care about.

Here's the deal: records like that are already off limits to basically every NBA player, with many players never even having a chance to get them because they came into the NBA too late. Like if I wanted to set the record, it's way too late for me. I'll never get the opportunity. EVER. NEVER EVER. I'm only getting older here, people. Same as everyone else. Time only moves in one direction.

"Oldest player to do x", now that's fine. Because, at least until you die and are thus unable to continue playing basketball, as long as you're alive, you have a hope of setting it. Even if Wilt had scored 50 when he was 51 years old (which probably happened), all you'd have to do is wait until you're older than that, work yourself back into basketball shape, and go out there and get those buckets. Easy.

Wake me up when LaMelo Ball is the oldest player to get a triple-double.
