USS Shangri-La: The Aircraft Carrier With the Funny Name

Описание: The aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La (CV or CVS-38) is a bit of an outlier in the U.S. Navy fleet. First off, what's with the name? Launched in 1944, the Shangri-La's life story bridges a transitional period of American history, when the victory and certainty of the World War II era gave way to a much more complicated military and political picture, marked by conflicts like Korea and Vietnam. How did this ship, named after a location in a fantasy novel, wind up moldering and forgotten in a shipyard in Philadelphia in the 1980s? This video will tell the story of this unique ship and a few of the people with whom she was associated.
