In this study the researchers examined the anti-bacterial resistance of the bacterial infection, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus AND they tried Levamisole in the fish food, to check the result after challenged infection with the Pseudomonas.
They find that many strains of Pseudomonas were resistant to antibiotics and that the anti-worm medication Levamisole , with750mg/kg fish food, improved survival rate drastically! A now potential choice to combat bacterial infections?
Still some critical question: maybe there is originally another other cause of fish disease on those 14% sick Tilapia, collected from the farms, that caused a secondary bacterial infection, like so often happens? They did not show examination of stress factors (overcrowding, poor husbandry, etc.) or parasitic infections, Spironucleus, Ichthyobodo, Worms, etc. at the fish farm??
For this kind or research: please use an holistic approach!
