The line ascends the town's Hausberg, the Merkur, atop which is the Merkur Tower. The line opened in 1913 and closed in 1967. It was reopened on 27 April 1979.
In just over 5 minutes, you'll reach the summit of the 2,191-foot Merkur Mountain with Europe’s steepest, and most technically advanced, funicular railway. Although many choose to hike to the top of Merkur Mountain, taking the funicular is a beautiful, relaxing, and scenic option.
And once at the top, you can admire panoramic views of Baden-Baden and beyond!
