Ron Sparks knew he could create a better hand-built specialty car that would combine exclusive characteristics all motoring enthusiasts appreciate, especially in rare, custom cars. So, he opened Spartan Motorcars in San Marcos, California, and marketed to business moguls, Hollywood elite and professional athletes alike, selling around 350 Spartan and Spartan II automobiles. Based on the 1986 Nissan 300ZX, this Spartan II is powered by a fuel-injected 3.0L V-6 engine and automatic transmission. Power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power locks, a power driver’s seat and more drive home the point of how well equipped this car is. Inside, passengers are coddled by supportive leather sport seats, an AM/FM stereo cassette system and a tasteful amount of wood-grain accents. Remove the glass T-top roof panels and enjoy a cruise along a favorite road in a car that few others have ever seen and many will wonder, “what is it?” The custom body employs many unique features as throwbacks to an era when Mercedes-Benz, Hispano-Suiza and the like ruled the roads. There’s really not much spartan about a Spartan.
