In physics, the Roche limit is the distance where a planet’s gravity becomes strong enough to tear a moon apart. If our Moon crossed that boundary, the result could be catastrophic: the Moon would fracture, debris would spread across orbit, meteor storms could strike Earth, and our planet might even gain a ring system.
