Hoe goed is jouw Gronings?/How good are you at Gronings?

Описание: Vandaag is het Internationale Moedertaaldag. Je moedertaal is de taal die je tijdens het opgroeien op een natuurlijk wijze leert. Dit kan de taal zijn van het land waar je geboren bent maar het kan ook een dialect zijn. Dialecten worden in Nederland steeds minder gesproken. Mensen geven het steeds minder door aan hun kinderen. Toch zijn ze wel degelijk belangrijk. Het kan heel bepalend zijn voor je identiteit. Je groeit ermee op en het hoort bij waar je vandaan komt.
In deze video vertelt PhD student Hedwig Sekeres van de Faculteit Letteren iets over het Groningse dialect. Wat veel mensen bijvoorbeeld niet weten over het Gronings, is dat het geen dialect van het Nederlands is, maar van een andere taal namelijk het Nedersaksisch. En wist je bijvoorbeeld ook dat er binnen het Gronings grote verschillen te vinden zijn? Alleen al het woord 'vier' kan bijvoorbeeld worden uitgesproken als fajer, fère, fare of feer.
Hoe zit het eigenlijk met de kennis van het Gronings binnen de RUG-gemeenschap? We vroegen aan studenten en medewerkers wat zij van het Gronings weten. Wat is bijvoorbeeld de betekenis van Popke nathals of wat betekent ‘Ik ben zat’?

Today is International Mother Language Day. Your mother tongue is the language you learn naturally as you grow up. It may be the language of the country where you were born, or it may be a dialect. Dialects are spoken increasingly less in the Netherlands. People speak them less and less with their children. Yet they are important. A dialect can be essential to your identity. You grow up with it and it belongs to where you come from.
In this video, Hedwig Sekeres, PhD student at the Faculty of Arts, talks about the Gronings dialect. What many people do not know about Gronings, for instance, is that it is not a dialect of Dutch but of a different language: Lower Saxon. And did you know that there are significant differences within the Gronings dialect? For instance, the word vier (‘four’) can be pronounced as fajer, fère, fare, or feer.
What is the actual level of knowledge of Gronings within the UG community? We asked students and staff what they know about Gronings. For example, what does the word puutje mean, or how do you say that you don’t care about something in Gronings?
