Deriva dalla famiglia loricariidae e proviene dal sud america, dalle zone del Brasile Colombia Perù e Argentina. E' un pesce di piccole dimensioni che non crescerà molto, è prevalentemente notturno anche se lo vedrete durante le ore di luce, ha una forma del corpo a goccia ,bocca a ventosa, presenta una livrea dai colori sfumati che vanno dal verde, al marroncino, al color sabbia. Ha la livrea delimitata da una riga scura di mezzeria che lo attraversa per tutto il corpo. Talvolta la parte superiore è di colore scuro e la parte inferiore chiara, Il muso è piuttosto lungo, e la bocca a forma di ventosa permette all'animale di ancorarsi al substrato, in zone soggette a forti correnti. Esistono varie specie ma le più famose sono l ' Otocinclus Affinis, l Otocilnclus Macrospilus, l' Otocinclus Cocama e l Otocinclus Niger.
