A submerged static object is subject to hydrostatic pressure acting on the various surfaces defining the boundary of the object. The resultant of these static pressures is the buoyancy force acting on the object.
Archimede's principle on buoyancy may be stated as:
1) The buoyant force on a submerged object is equal to the weight of the displaced fluid.
2) An object in neutral equilibrium (floating) displaces a volume of fluid whose weight equals the weight of the object.
