Catwalk of the Congo.
Flamboyant fashion isn't something you'd usually associate with the streets of Brazzaville, but Sapeurs bring an air of extravagance and fun to everyday life in the Congo.
The Sapeur sub-culture of well-dressed gentlemen (and now women too!) dates back to the 1920s when French colonists arrived in the central African nation.
The Parisian style was adapted over the decades, and with the rise of the Congolese rumba scene in the 1950s, the Sapeurs soon became essential to the fabric of Congolese life.
Head of Content Alicia-Rae Light rubbed shoulders with the Sapeurs on her recent trip to the capital city and was blown away by the bold styles, bowties, and bowler hats.
If you'd like to gain a deeper appreciation for Congolese culture or simply admire this joyous attire, get in touch to start planning your trip.
